Here are some frequently asked questions about VoIP services.

Can you briefly explain me what VoIP is?

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. A VoIP phone, (or phone broadband) is a telephone service that connects the existing high-speed Internet connection for the purpose of making and receiving calls.

Traditional land, you can use your phone to make calls over ordinary telephone copper wires running in top posts.

There are two types of VoIP phone services and computer-based accommodation.

And telephone-based service, you can use standard telephone equipment. And computer services at home and plug a headset microphone to your computer and make calls that way.

How can I find or make a VoIP phone?

For the d-based phone service to do what you always do: take a call to answer or call the number to call. You won t see the difference, really.

And computer-based services, you can make (or receive) calls using a headset and microphone are plugged into your computer.

Can I call a phone or another VoIP phone only?

Many providers now allow you to call any number of the world - calls, long distance calls, phone calls, or even an international number.

However, there are several computer-based VoIP service providers that restrict your calls are still other customers to the service (which they call a user by the user).

Either way, you ll probably have access to some types of articles as part of VoIP service: speaking to more than one person at the Meeting or three-way Calling Calling, caller ID, etc.

How does the sound quality?

VoIP service quality has improved very little over the years to win as far as possible be able to distinguish between VoIP and landline rates.

However, voice clarity may vary depending on the particular VoIP provider. The speed also depends on the quality and high speed internet connection.

Before you register, you may want to talk to other users of the service you are considering.

Need a computer to make or receive calls?

Not if you have a phone-based VoIP services. You will need ADAPTER (which you can get from a VoIP provider). This Adapter will connect your phone's high speed internet connection.

You ll we need to use the computer as a computer-based VoIP services.

Did I do something different to make long distance calls to local phone?

There is no difference. Which may be different is how much you are required to call the foundation that you can go to the VoIP service. But in general, long-distance rates low enough. Not only that: most providers will make unlimited long distance VoIP assess aspects of their plans.

OK, let's get technical. How to make VoIP work?

As noted, for Voice over IP protocol that you use to make and receive calls. More specifically, you are using packet switching technology rather than traditional circuit switching is used in the old-fashioned telephone system.

Does this mean that your phone into small digital packets, each one is to show that color is part of the message. So is compressed and sent on their way over or through several different channels. Traditional phone system will use one way, which is not too effective - too much power. The way they have been chosen depending on the network, etc.

Sometimes the end, the package is put back together in the correct order, then decompressed and converted back to voice your party can understand.

Hope that wasn t too technical!
